(Including the Frog Eyes modification!)
Hi pals! Welcome to the 6/29/24 update of my cottage core crochet bandana pattern! I really love this one and I wanted to make sure I kept it updated and accessible, so there are a few changes, but I think it helps make this a little easier to make.
I also added a new frog eye modification! Just a little something extra cute to add to your wardrobe. I wear mine more than I probably should, but it’s too cute and I don’t care. It doesn’t take up much yarn so you should have extras if you buy a skein of green yarn and just happen to have a handful of black and white yarn in your stash.
There are also a few more photos added to this update. Last one was just words, but I knew a few parts could benefit from seeing what I am talking about, so I added those too. If you want me to make a video tutorial too just comment below or send me an email and I am sure I can get that added to the list.
Alright pals, enough from me, go make your cottage core crochet bandana!

Pattern Notes
- Please read all notes and directions before starting the pattern.
- Chain stitches at the beginning of each round do not count as a stitch.
- I have some notes throughout the pattern just as a little “hey this is why we are doing this” or “this is totally optional but it’s an option I wanted to share”.
- We are working in back and forth rows for both the bandana and the eye modification OTHER THAN the magic circle in the eyes. Nothing else will be in the round.

Pattern Directions
Headband
- *Chain 41 and continue to row 1* OR *FSC 40, ch 2 and turn, continue to row 2*
- Row 1 – Sc in the 2nd st from hook and sc in each ch across. Ch 2 and turn (40)
- Row 2 – Dc in the 1st stitch , *sk 2 stitches, 3 dc in the next stitch* till there are 3 stitches left. Sk 2 and dc in the last stitch, ch 2 and turn.
- Row 3 – Dc2tog, 3 dc in the space between shells until there is one space left, dc2tog (the last stitch in the shell and the final stitch). The dc2tog at the beginning and end are what creates the decreases for the “triangle” shape.
- Rows 4- 12 – Repeat Row 3
- Row 13 – Dc2tog, Dc 1, dc2tog. Ch 2 turn.
- Row 14- Dc3tog. F/o.
- Weave in ends.
Straps
- Attach yarn at either end of the part of the headband where you single crocheted in the beginning. Chain at least 30-40 stitches. (some may need more stitches, it just depends on how long you want your straps, I like mine pretty small so they hide in my hair. Some may want them longer to braid into their hair.) finish off.
- Attach yarn to the opposite side and repeat the same amount of stitches. Finish off.
- Before trimming any of the ends of the straps I recommend tying a little knot right at the end of the chain and the start of the tail just to make sure it’s secure. Totally optional, I have two with and two without, just whatever your preference is.
Frog Eyes Modification
Eyeballs:
Make 2
- (Using black yarn) Make a magic circle, or ch 3 and slst to furthest chain and make a circle that way, and place 4 sc, make one more sc but before finishing the stitch change colors to the white yarn and complete the stitch (total of 5 sc in the magic circle/ch 3 circle.)
- (Still using the white yarn) ch 1 and place 2 hdc in each stitch. (10 hdc.) finish off and weave in the ends. Make 2.
Eyelid (? I don’t know what to call this, but it’s the green part of the eyes lol.)
Make 4
- Row 1 – (Using green yarn) Make a magic circle, or ch 3 and slst to the furthest chain and make a circle that way, place 5 sc in the magic circle/ch 3. Chain 2 and turn.
- Row 2 – Make 2 hdc in each stitch, ch 2 and turn. (10)
- Row 3 – *2 hdc in the first st, 1 hdc in the next* repeat * to * around. Ch 1 and turn. (15)
- Row 4 – Sc in each stitch around. (15) F/o
When you have two of them, sew the eyeball onto the front of one of them, then take the two green parts and single crochet them together around the outside.
Once you have the eyes assembled you can sew them onto the front of your bandana. I used the whip stitch, but really any would work.
