I know you’re supposed to write something clever here, or witty, or even inspiring, but I just don’t ever know what to write when describing my designs so that it doesn’t sound like a food blogger trying to use every SEO/Keyword possible. So here is my Thermal Stitch bag. The thermal stitch is such a fun way to add density and strength. And holding so many strands together at the end makes such an easy and strong strap, plus if you are using a similar color palette, it makes the prettiest marled rainbow. This bag is great for holding a kindle, a book or two, a few snacks, or the rocks and sticks you found on the sidewalk that you HAD to bring home.

Pattern Notes
- Please read all notes and directions before starting the pattern.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.
- Stitch count is at the end of each row.
Abbreviations
All patterns follow the same abbreviations as the Crafty Yarn Council.
| CH | Chain |
| SC | Single Crochet |
| SCBLO | Single Crochet Back Loop Only |
Thermal Stitch: The thermal stitch is a variation of doing a single crochet, instead of going through the two loops on the top of the stitch, you will go through only the back loop of the current row, and then the open loop from the row below it. This creates a super thick fabric that works perfect for things like bags, potholders, and jackets.

Pattern Directions

Gauge
- 12 Stitches X 11 Rows as written.
Bag
- Row 1 – ch 49
- Row 2 – Sc in the second ch from hook, sc across, ch 1, turn. (48)
- Row 3 – Sc in the blo of the first stitch, sc in the blo across, ch1, turn. (48)
- Row 4 – 48 – Repeat row 3 for the remainder of the bag, making 8 total rows per color, 6 total color segments, or 48 rows total if you are making this in one color. (48)
Bag Seaming & Finishing
With the rectangle laying flat, take the bottom of the back and fold it on top of itself, so row 48 is laying on row 11. Seam up both sides, fold the top 10 rows we left unseamed over the opening.
To create the strap, use a 12mm hook, hold 10-12 strands of DK weight together (or approx. 5 strands of Aran weight) and chain until the strap is your desired length. Attach to the sides of the bag, weave in ends, and attach magnets to the underside of the flap if desired.
