Hi pals and welcome to today’s blog post, the chevron stitch tutorial! This is one of my favorite stitch patterns, perfect for blankets, sweaters, bags, hats, cardigans, scarves, okay it’s great for everything really, and I am so stoked to finally get it up on here for you.
I don’t personally have any patterns featuring a chevron anymore, but I might go digging around in my archive and see what I can find. If I remember right I have a few buried back in there somewhere. :)
You can use any yarn you want on this, just make sure you have a corresponding hook that works well. Also maybe a few stitch markers just in case you want to count stitches a little easier. I am using Red Heart Super Saver in Retro Stripes and my 5 mm rainbow crochet hook.
Chevron Stitch Tutorial
Abbreviations
- Ch – Chain
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Sc3tog – Single Crochet 3 Stitches Together
Ch multiples of 12 plus 2.
I will be chaining 50, which is 12×4 = 48 + 2. You can do 26 if you want, but with a larger swatch you are able to really see how these stitch repeats form this really pretty pattern.

Row 1
- Place 2 sc in the second ch from the hook, for a total of 3 sc.
- Sc in each of the next 4 stitches.
- Sc3tog.
- Sc in each of the next 4 stitches.
- Sc 3 in the next stitch.
Repeat those 4 steps across your chain. In the last stitch place 3 sc.

Row 2
- Ch 1 (counts as sc) and place 2 sc in the stitch, for a total of 3 sc.
- Sc in each of the next 4 stitches
- Sc3tog.
- Sc in each of the next 4 stitches
- Sc 3 in the next stitch.
Continue repeating row 2 until you’ve reached your desired length.
