Hi pals! Welcome back to the blog! Today we have one of the most fun collaborations I have ever done, a Cordsmith mini keychain tutorial! I was sent 3 Cordsmith minis and I said I would make a tutorial video on the super cute keychain Autumn posted a little while ago.

The Steps broken down – Cordsmith Mini Keychain Tutorial
This little keychain is really fun because there are about a bazillion ways to make it. It consists of 4 strands of cord that you make with approx. 15 yards (1.8g) fingering weight (size one) yarn, that are about 3 feet long. They can be in 4 different colors, or all the same, you get to pick of course.
The next step is attaching them to the lobster clasp. Autumn’s photo tutorial and my video tutorial match here.
After that is the 4 strand braid, Autumn does one with two overs, mine is an over under, under over method. You could also look up a few other ways and see which pattern works best for you!
After that we tie it off, I tied a few knots but you could do a few different types of wrap knots to get a cleaner look. I just happened to also break off the yarn (I pulled too hard) and just went with it instead of redoing the whole thing. A tiny bit of a mistake, but sometimes it’s okay to just live with them when the finished product works the same.

Anyway, l really appreciate you checking out this tutorial, so if you like it let me know and I will try and make more of them! I know they aren’t always perfect, but I feel like that kind of represents a lot of us as makers, imperfectly awesome and willing to accept that sometimes things just are the way they are in our craft and we can learn to live with them, or we can fix them, or we can throw it across the room and curse it to the pile of doom for the next 4-6 business months. It’s called balance.
Here’s what you need for the Cordsmith Mini Keychain Tutorial
- Cordsmith & Cordsmith Mini: https://byautumn.com/cordsmith/
- Yes, you could also knit the cord with knitting needles, or even crochet a cord like the Romanian cord, but I HIGHLY recommend a Cordsmith. It will take approximately one to one and a half Lord of the Rings movie to make all 4 cords if you only mess up a few times.

- Lobster Clasp: This specific one is one you can get only from Autumn, just let her know in a note when checking out!
