Hi pals, welcome to the blog! Today I am sharing with you a free Tunisian crochet Kindle purse pattern! Last week I taught you how to make the strap, and if you aren’t into knitting and/or don’t have a Cordsmith I give you another option at the bottom of the pattern today.

This Tunisian crochet Kindle purse pattern is a super great beginner friendly pattern, and if you are already a crocheter who knows how to chain and single crochet, well, you’re 2 steps ahead!
For this one, you just need one cake of Lion Brand Mandala Yarn, I made my samples in the color way Happy, or any comparable size 4 medium weight yarn. You also need a 6.5 mm Tunisian crochet hook with a 3-5 inch long cable and stopper. After those two things it’s really just scissors, a needle to weave in ends, and some fun music playing in the background. Or an audio book. Or silence. Hopefully not *loud noises*, but I’m not here to judge.

If you’re more of a video tutorial type of maker, I have a video for both the strap and the bag itself linked for you at the bottom of the pattern. I am trying really hard to make sure I have videos for you with each pattern due to you asking for them so often, so make sure you check it out so I know the time and energy editing everything is being spent with purpose, and not for me to fill the void with silly things.
& if you’re more of a “give me checkboxes Sam!” kind of maker, I do have a PDF in my Ravelry shop that comes with check boxes for each forward pass and return pass, and really anywhere there should be checkboxes. These PDF’s are also compatible with iPads and Kindle Scribes (for writing) and Kindles/Phones for crocheting on the go. With all of my 2025 patterns forward, you also get two versions. A simplified version for printing, and one with a ton of photos for you to reference if needed. Anyway, back to the pattern.

Panels (make 2)
Make a slip knot and chain 30.
Insert your hook into the first stitch next to the hook and pull up a loop. Repeat this across the entire chain.
- This is called a Tunisian Forward Pass, using the Tunisian Simple Stitch. This is the first part of the TSS.
You should end with 30 total loops on your hook.
Yarn over and pull through one loop.
- This creates the left edge of your panel.
*Yarn over and pull through two loops.*
- This is your Tunisian Return Pass, which is part two of the TSS.
Repeat * to * until one loop remains on your hook.
- This single loop is the right edge of your panel.
- You should always end your return pass with one loop remaining on your hook
You’ve now made row 1 of your panel. Each row will consist of a Forward Pass, and a Return Pass.
Row 2-30
FORWARD PASS: Counting the first stitch on your hook as stitch 1, *insert your hook into the front bar of the next stitch, YO and pull up a loop.* Repeat * to * across.
RETURN PASS: YO and pull through one loop. *Yarn over and pull through 2 loops.* Repeat * to * across until you have 1 stitch left on the hook.

Binding off:
To bind off, insert your hook into the next stitch, yo and pull up a loop, then pull that loop through the loop on your hook. *Insert your hook into the next stitch, yo and pull up a loop, pull through the loop on your hook.* Repeat * to * until you have one loop left on your hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through about 8 inches, then cut it so you leave a tail long enough to weave in.
Seaming:
With the wrong sides touching each other, zig-zag slip stitch down one side, across the bottom, and back up the other side. Finish off and weave in your ends.
Strap:
Use this tutorial to make an I-cord braided strap for your bag, or this tutorial for a crocheted Romanian I-cord strap instead! For the Romanian I-cord I recommend making two straps, then looping them in the middle, then seaming the ends to the inside of the bag on either side.
And with that, you have your very own Kindle Purse! Or crocheted pouch, or whatever you want to call it. If you want to get super fancy, and know how because I don’t have a tutorial (yet), you could even add a zipper or button and loop to it to make sure nothing falls out! Either way, hope you enjoyed this pattern!
Xx,
Sam

This is so cute, I’ve been had a book/kindle holder on my patterns to make list for so long. I love that so many of us crocheters are readers as well!
