Happy Saturday pals! Today I have a brand new, wildly fun, pattern for you! Introducing The Sunrise Beanie! This one is designed with Sunset Fiber Co yarn, the same yarn I used for my MacBook Sleeve (another free pattern 😉), and at this point I am just trying to see how many things I can design with 4 skeins of her yarn. Or I guess really 4 skeins of any DK weight yarn, but I am really digging her yarn specifically.
Technically this is a “chunky” beanie, because I am holding two strands together at a time, but I was so sure that if I did it this way I’d use up all the yarn but I still have 161 grams of yarn left. (Coincidentally 161 grams is also the exact same weight as this beanie is without the pom pom, and I just thought that was funny and had to share.)

Notes
- Please read the pattern before starting, I write these a little different than some people and include notes and tidbits I wrote down to try and make things as clear as possible.
- This beanie is worked holding two strands of dk weight yarn together throughout. The color changes are noted through the pattern, and I don’t cut the ends, I just carry it up through the inside of the beanie. If you are working with one color you can obviously ignore those notes.
- Another note about the color changes: I use 3 colors for the sample. I held one strand of variegated yarn throughout the entire beanie, and changed the second strand only.
- It is also worked from the “bottom” up, but in this case the hat band is worked in back and forth rows, then seamed together, then the head portion of the beanie is made, then the crown, and finally the optional pom is attached.

Items Needed
- 2 – 3 skeins of DK weight yarn. If using two skeins, I would cake them and just hold the two center strands together throughout the beanie. If you are using three, cake those three, then split your “multi” yarn into 2 cakes.
- Colors Sam used for the sample: Cotton Candy Clouds (variegated), Clear Skies (blue), and DayDream (pink).
- 5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- (optional) 6 inch pompom
Size / Measurements
Fits an adult, 20-22 inch, head.
Can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount of rows in your hat band and then increase or decrease your total stitch count for the head portion.
Also remember that handmade beanies do stretch out over time with wear and wash, this will relax a little bit depending on care.

Finishing & Pom attachment
Using your tapestry needle, weave your tail in through each stitch around the top. Cinch shut and finish off closing the hole in the top, then weave in your ends.
If attaching a pom, sew the button to the inside of the beanie (if using the poms with loops), sew the snap to the top (if using the ones with snaps), or sew the pom directly onto the beanie (if using a third type of beanie with no loop or snap).
Weave in the rest of your ends and there you go, The Sunrise Beanie!
