Hi pals! Welcome to today’s crochet stitch tutorial, the Zig Zag Puff Stitch!
This is a super fun stitch, with about 37 variations, but this one is the simple version of the Zig Zag Puff stitch. All you need for this tutorial is a crochet hook that matches the yarn weight you are using, I’m using a 5mm hook and Red Heart Super Saver in Retro Stripes, scissors, a tapestry needle, and the ability to count up to 22. 😊
I really like the Zig Zag Puff Stitch for a variety of projects, including scarves (pattern coming this fall!), blankets, beanies, fingerless gloves, dish cloths, and really anything you want a little texture and airiness to.
There is also a YouTube video on the Zig Zag Puff Stitch tutorial if that’s more your thing.
Abbreviations and stitches:

- St – Stitch
- Puff Stitch: *Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop*. Repeat 2 more times until you have 7 loops on your hook, then yarn over and pull through all of 7 loops on your hook.
