I know you’re supposed to write something clever here, or witty, or even inspiring, but I just don’t ever know what to write when describing my designs so that it doesn’t sound like a food blogger trying to use every SEO/Keyword possible, so here is the Maya Shawl.
I designed this back in 2021 for Lion Brand using their heartland yarn, and then I forgot what happened but it didn’t get published and they let me share the pattern anyway. I also don’t remember where this name came from, so that’s also a fun thing. :)

Project Supplies
- ∙Lion Brand Heartland in two colors – (or worsted weight yarn)
- Color A (2 Balls)
- Color B (2 Balls)
- Tunisian crochet hook size 6mm (j10) with 13 inch cable
- large-eyed blunt needle
Pattern Size
Finished Width About 60 in. (152.5 cm), across top edge
Finished Length About 40 in. (101.6 cm) across widest point
Pattern Notes
- Please read all notes and directions before starting the pattern.
- You will be increasing in the first stitch and the last stitch of the row. To do that you will ch one at the end of your return pass, then yo, insert your hook into the vertical bar of the first stitch, yo and draw up a loop, then you will yo and draw through two loops.
- To increase in the last st you will place 2 tdc in the last st of the row.
Descriptions of Special Stitches
- Forward Pass Tunisian Double Crochet – Yo and insert your hook into the vertical bar of the st. Yo and pull up a loop. Yo and draw through 2 loops.
- Return Pass (with same color) – Yo and draw through first loop, *yo and draw through 2 loops; rep from * until 1 loop remains (this loop becomes the first st of the next row)
- Return Pass (with opposite color) – Switch to opposite color, yo and draw through first loop, *yo and draw through 2 loops; rep from * until 2 loop remains, switch to main color and pull through last two loops

- Row 1 – In 3rd ch from hook, tdc 2 stitches (3)
- Row 1 – Return pass – Return pass with Color B
- Row 2 – Tdc inc, tdc 1, tdc inc (5)
- Row 2 Return Pass – Return Pass
- Row 3 -Tdc inc, tdc 3, tdc inc (7)
- Row 3 Return Pass -Return pass with Color B
- Row 4 -Tdc inc, tdc 5, tdc inc (9)
- Row 4 Return Pass- Return Pass

- Weave in yarn ends.
