Okay here is my non spoiler review of “One Last Stop” using only key words.
Lesbians, Drag Queens, Pancakes.
I’m only partially joking, but those things are in this book. I didn’t even know this book existed until a few weeks ago when someone suggested it to me. I found it at Target, didn’t even read the back cover, just bought it. It took me about 6 hours to devour this book and idk if that’s a long time or not but I didn’t want to stop reading it. It’s 417 pages & I cried 3 times. Those things are important to mention when you read a book imo.
Anyway, I loved that there was actual history in this book (read the acknowledgments please) and I then went down a rabbit hole of 70’s queer history in New Orleans which was fascinating and heartbreaking to discover. I loved that this book was so normal but so magical in its own ways. I mean, it’s a romance novel set in the subway, but it’s also so much more than that.
I don’t like rating books by numbers, just doesn’t seem to fit my vibe, so this one falls under “I would read this again on a summer day in the park with one of my AirPods in listening to Lofi and also people watching with a friend who is also reading this book again. But maybe not the first time you read it if you’re a cryer.”
