Hi, okay, so, yes my birthday was in January. What happened was, I recorded each day, and then finished it and it was my birthday so I technically finished it, but I forgot to record the video of it finished on my birthday. So, the other day I saw my sweater hanging in the closet (with its ends still not weaved in), and remembered I still needed to record the ending and now we are here!
So go check out the video! I had a ton of fun making it (even if I forgot the most important part), and I think I might add in random “Week in Sam’s life” videos every now and then.
But here are the details of my 6 day birthday sweater adventure!
Where is the yarn from??? Apple Blossom Yarn! This mother daughter duo dyes some of the most wonderfully soft and GORGEOUS yarn. They are located here in Washington too, so #shoplocal, right? I am doing a good thing here.
So the cool part about this yarn is the fact that it is dyed after my favorite dark romance series, the Ruinous Love Trilogy by Brynne Weaver, and they didn’t just do a good job, they NAILED it.

So how did I plan out the sweater with all this gorgeous yarn?
- Body: Love on Cosmic Sock held with Love on Aurora Suri Lace
- Sleeves: Love on Cosmic Sock held with “OOAK Dusky Rainbow” on Aurora Suri Lace. (They dyed this one for me to help bring this chaos to life, can you believe how sweet they are?!)
- Ribbing: Ruinous on Cosmic Sock held with “OOAK Dusky Rainbow” on Aurora Suri Lace
Did I need to order this much yarn? We aren’t going to answer that question. I wasn’t sure if I was making a full size sweater, a tank top, a crop top, a dress. I just knew I was going to start knitting and when I hit my birthday I was “done” if I wanted to be or not. However, in the end I ended up with the exact sweater I wanted. The sleeves are the best length (for me), the length hits right where 99% of my pants/skirts hit on my waist, and the yarn itself is so damn soft I don’t need to wear a body suit under it.
And you might be wondering, what pattern did you use Sam? Well, that’s another great question. I didn’t. I just winged it and hoped for the best. Well, winging it as much as I can with a fully blocked knit and a dream. I can tell you, I used 4.0mm needles, I cast on 150 stitches, knit about an inch of 1×1 ribbing, set up the stitch markers at 50 on front and back, 25 on sleeves, and then knit a round, then increased at the markers, then knit a round, and i just did that till it felt good. I split for sleeves, then knit the body. Picked up stitches on the arm, knit that to just above my elbow, and added another inch of ribbing before binding off. I know, not super great, but I didn’t really write it down, I had 6 days. 7 if you stretch it, but it was more like 30-40 hours of knitting in a short amount of time. With a full time job. And a partner. And kids. It was a lot.

I also might have a few skeins left, so I am taking ideas for the next thing to make with this yarn. I already have a (previously purchased) sock set in the Ruinous colorway, and now this sweater, but maybe something with Ruinous more the center of attention? It really deserves to be the star outside of socks, it’s just so damn pretty.
I do still need to weave in the ends, but I may or may not have already worn it a few times around the house because it’s freaking cute. I still need to do a proper photo shoot, she deserves it, but I want to wait until I have the socks and… well… I might have bought yarn from their newest collection (also Brynne Weaver themed), and let me tell you, this is going to be WILD.
Anyway, thanks for coming along on this silly sweater adventure. Remind me around June to buy my birthday sweater yarn and then remind me in October to get started on it lol. I can NOT do another 6 day chaos knit. I am so thankful this one worked out, but this person was stressed.
Love you pals <3
