Hi pals! Welcome to today’s blog post! Today I am sharing with you my review on the Cordsmith XL, as well as a comparison to its pals – The Cordsmith Original and Cordsmith Mini version.
So first off, what in the heck is a Cordsmith? well, it’s a hand knitting tool that allows you to create I-cord without the need to use double pointed needles (dpns) and this one specifically is my favorite.
The story goes “A knitter named Katherine used a wooden handle with bent nails to create a knit cord she used for reigns for a game she played.” That was a long long time ago, like hundreds of years apparently. So they’ve been around for longer than you and I at least.
HOWEVER, this version that SizeInclusiveCollective made is the first of its kind. It’s 3D printed, designed to be ergonomic, and she can customize them in more ways than I thought possible. PLUS her prices are wildly affordable, and if even that isn’t something you can manage (believe me, been there many times), she does a program called Seconds where she ships you one for free. Honestly, Autumn is a really incredible human being.

So let’s get into the 3 versions she has.
First up is the Cordsmith Original. This is the first baby to have entered my tool box and I haven’t looked back. It’s smooth, works with yarns from lace weight through worsted, and it’s such a fun tool to work with in general.
Next we got the Cordsmith Mini. This makes the CUTEST tiny I-cords you have ever seen and I adore it. This one’s yarn recommendations are lace through sport, but it might get a little tight if you reach Dk.
And most recently she added the Cordsmith XL. This baby is a beaut. With 4 latch hooks vs the 3 of the others, this Cordsmith creates more of a flattened rectangle of I-cord vs a more round. I am seeing this used for SO. MANY. THINGS.
