Hi pals, welcome to the blog! Today I am sharing with you all the details for my 2025 temperature blanket! Well, not all the details, but the concept, plans, and overall vibe.
First up, what in the heck is a temperature blanket? Well, it’s a blanket that tracks (originally) temperatures, but now people use it for moods, weather, holidays, books, and a variety of other things. I wrote my first temperature blanket pattern back in 2021 during my time at Happily Hooked, and it’s still one of my most used items in the house. That one tracked the temperatures of our last year in Michigan, and it turned out so neat.
This year I am tracking the temperatures in Seattle, WA (where we live currently) for the entire year. I already have my spreadsheet broken down into 4 quarters, the graph for the design created, the gauge swatch made, the yarn colors mapped out, and I think we are ready to go!
Here’s the key for my temperature blanket tracking:

The yarn brand itself might change, with JoAnn’s potentially closing, and I am working with a few other companies this year, but the colors themselves will stay very close to the same.
This year, instead of doing Tunisian crochet rows, I am making granny hexagons. I will be making one per week, and I am tracking the highest temperature and lowest temperature for each day, and then basing my hexagon off of that. So each row will represent a different piece of that data. The inner circle and third row (white) will be the highest temperature of the week. The second and fourth rows (black) will be the lowest temperature of the week. And finally, the border (pink/blue) will be the average temperature of the week.

So once I have a few made I can start joining them. I still haven’t decided on how I will join them, but I think the zig-zag slip stitch is gonna have to sit this one out. I’m leaning more invisible seam, but if you have any suggestions I am all ears. But eventually, it will look something like this.

After that? Well, that’s a secret. I have a few ideas for the border, and I am really excited to see how this all comes together. I have the first part of January already tracked, the yarn is on its way, and I CANNOT wait to get these first few hexagons made. The colors are going to look so freaking cool together.
Okay, I think that’s all the info I can share for now. Let me know if you’re making your own temperature blanket, and what your colors are for the year! I am so excited to hear all about it.
Xx,
Sam
