Hello pals, welcome back! Today, I’m excited to share the Basket Weave Crochet Stitch tutorial with you. This stunning and versatile technique adds remarkable texture and depth to any project. Resembling the intricate pattern of a woven basket, the basket weave stitch creates a fabric that is both visually appealing and durable. It’s perfect for blankets, scarves, and home décor items.
The basket weave stitch combines front and back post double crochets to achieve its signature look. This technique looks fantastic with variegated yarns like the Red Heart Super Saver in Retro Stripes (an affiliate link), as well as with semi-solid and solid yarns. Experimenting with color changes can add a fun twist to this stitch technique—imagine a checkerboard pattern with basket weave definition!

Abbreviations
- CH – Chain
- BPDC -Back Post Double Crochet
- FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
- SK – Skip
- ST – Stitch
Chain Instructions
- Chain in multiples of 8 plus 4. I am doing 36, so 8 x 4 = 32 + 4 = 36.

Section One
- In the 4th ch from the hook (the chain counts as your first stitch) dc in each stitch across.

- * Ch 3 and turn. (Ch 3 counts as a dc) FPDC around the next 4 dc. BPDC around the next 4 dc.*
- Repeat * to * to end. In the last stitch (the turning chain) make 1 dc.
- Ch 3 and turn.

- FPDC around the first 4 dc, BPDC around the next 4. Repeat across and dc in the top of the turning chain in the last stitch. Ch 3 and turn.
- Repeat this 3 more times, for a total of 4 rows. This completes your first “section” of your basket weave. Now you’re going to want to crisscross those “sections”.

Section Two
- BPDC around the first 4 dc, FPDS around the next 4. Repeat across and dc in the top of the turning chain in the last stitch.
- Repeat this 3 more times, for a total of 4 rows.

Continuing the Basket Weave Stitch
- Continue to repeat section one and section two until you have reached your desired length.
