Hi pals, welcome back to the blog! Today I am sharing my newest free crochet pattern, the Patchwork Scarf! This one is a super quick make, with simple stitches, color changes to keep it interesting, and if you play your cards right you’ll have minimal ends to weave in at the end!
If you’ve been here for a bit, you know I work with Hobbii.com a lot in collaborations for some of my designs. This one was not that. Yes, I do get free yarn from them, but I also buy a lot of yarn from them, so I rack up points like it’s my job. I hadn’t checked the balance in a bit and when I did I saw I had over 20,000 points, so I went shopping. :)

Hobbii has a really great points store (no I am not getting paid to say any of this) and when I saw their mini packs of their Friends Cotton 8/8 I KNEW I needed to make something patchwork with it. I grabbed 3 packs and waited for them to arrive patiently. About a week later they were here and off I went with designing.
Anyway, the scarf is made in 3 strips, seamed together, and the color changes are totally random. I just stuck the minis into a bag and pulled them out one at a time. After I used it for one section it went right into another bag and I just went back and forth between the two bags until one was empty. I still had a little yarn left over, but not quite enough for a 4th strip, although that would look super cute too.

Notes
- Please read the pattern before starting. I write these a little differently than some people and include notes and tidbits I wrote down to try and make things as clear as possible.
- Crocheted in 3 strips, seamed together at the end.
- Each mini skein should give you 3 rectangles, one for each strip.
- Colors were chosen at random from a bag, I just reached inside and grabbed one and used it regardless of the layout. You can adjust to your liking of course.
- When changing colors and starting a new row I recommend holding your tails in the back of your work and crocheting over them when starting the next rows stitches. This way you just have to trim your ends, vs weaving them in manually.

Strips (make 3)
Starting with your first color:
- Row 1: Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) 7. Chain (ch) 1 and turn.
- Row 2-6: Single crochet (sc) in each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn.
- Row 7: Sc in each stitch across, but before finishing your 7th sc, change colors to your next color.
- Row 8 – 12: Sc in each st across, ch1 and turn. (7)
- Row 13: Sc in each stitch across, but before finishing your 7th sc, change colors to your next color.
- Repeat Rows 8-13 for a total of 210 rows, or 30 sections of 7 rows per color.
Seaming
Lay out strips out in the layout you want. Starting from the top or bottom, seam the 2 outside strips to the middle strip using your favorite seaming method. I just used a mattress stitch for mine.
Blocking
I recommend steam blocking this one, pinning the corners down to help prevent curling, but it will inevitably curl so keep that in mind.
