Hi pals! Welcome back! Today I am giving you alllllll the details from my 2024 Granny Square Blanket pattern!
This blanket is something we started on my Twitch stream last fall, and I 100% believed I had the vision I could complete this by December. That did not happen.
I did, however, get it halfway done, so here is all the information you need to start and make your own “SamBartleyDesigns Granny Square Stream Blanket”. And yes, I’ll be updating this when I finish it, but I don’t know when that will be, so stay tuned, ;).

Yarn:
- Red Heart Super Saver – Rainbow
- Big Twist – Black
- Big Twist – White
How much depends on how many squares you are making for your blanket. My squares weighted out at 10 grams each (with ends weaved in), so do with that information what you will.
My blanket will measure out at about 75 inches tall by 55 inches wide.
Other items:
- 5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Blocking board, a big towel, something you can block your squares with.
- Patience
How to start? Well, I have a graph to show you how I laid out all my squares to create a design within the design. You don’t have to do that, but it does look pretty freaking rad, doesn’t it?

Total 5 inch granny squares needed:
First, you need to make a ton of granny squares. If you are breaking it down the same way I did:
- Rainbow Squares: 68
- Black Squares: 53
- White Squares: 44
So first things first, make your squares. I recommend making them row by row, seaming each row to the row below it first. Once all of the rows are seamed horizontally you can go back and seam everything vertically. I used the zig-zag slip stitch seaming method, because of course I did, using black yarn for. I also used a TON of stitch markers to hold everything together and mark where center was, but I think it made it look a lot cleaner than seaming each square individually to each other.

Obviously, I don’t have the whole blanket made yet. But the seaming is the same regardless of what squares you use, and once you seam the final row you can add your border.
For this blanket I am just doing a simple single crochet border, adding a *3 sc, ch 3, 3 sc* into each of the 4 corners.
I think this covers all the details for everything I am doing, and I know it’s not complete yet, but I was getting tired of saying “the blog post is coming soon”, so now it’s here, and the final blanket will be shown sometime this year. <3
Thanks for hanging out pals!
Cheers,
Sam
