Hi pals! Welcome back to the blog. Today we are going over a few new pattern reviews, knit and Tunisian crochet, and I am so excited to share them with you. I’ve got two beanies and a Tunisian shawl that I can’t stop talking about (spoiler!) so obviously I am going to spill my guts here. What is the point in having a blog if you can’t go feral on it? Exactly.
Also, if you aren’t friends with me on Ravelry you totally should be! I have been adding all of my projects to my Rav with notes and progress shots and everything. It’s been such a fun way to track my projects while also linking back to the designer.
But seriously, let’s get into the reviews and don’t worry, I link everything and share where I got my yarns. If you have any other questions, including “how do I even do Tunisian crochet“, I have a few resources, but send me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll guide you on your way.
Purl Soho Ear Flap Knit Beanie
Okay this knit beanie was a blast to learn. I have never done short rows on a beanie before, but I learned and they came out great. And I am going to be totally honest, I didn’t pay attention to gauge or anything, because a slouchy beanie is a great beanie in my opinion, but this one for sure didn’t turn out like the original photos lol. I made it in the large size, thinking my head was much bigger than it is apparently, and instead of a fitted cap of sorts, we got a slouuuuuchy beanie with the cutest I-cord straps and I just love this beanie a lot.

The yarn is Sewrella’s Evermore on Stellina Dk and I cannot get enough of it. Fun fact, I had actually made a beanie with this yarn the first time she released the Taylor Swift collection and sadly, that one got destroyed in our move, so when I saw it back at Flock I legit crawled under people to get it. Don’t worry, they were looking up higher lol.

kiki shawl lite – Tunisian Crochet
The Kiki shawl lite is probably my favorite make of the year so far, at least when it comes to a Tunisian crochet design. If you don’t know who Toni is, she is the rockstar that designs some of the dreamiest crochet and Tunisian crochet projects and I am thoroughly obsessed with them. Back in 2018 (?) I pattern tested for Toni and learned how to do Tunisian crochet, so it was only fitting I snag another to make for myself.
The Kiki shawl lite is the dk version of the pattern. There are two versions, and you can get them on Tonis website here. The Kiki Shawl Lite is the one I made, and that is a paid pattern. Toni does have the bulky version for free though, you can find that here. She has such a great format and style with how she writes her patterns, it’s quite magical to read if I’m being honest.
And the yarn, we can’t forget about the yarn. This is all Explorer Knits and I cannot get enough of her yarn. The variegated is Court of Dreams and the dusty purple is Drift, and even though they weren’t made for each other, they were TOTALLY made for each other. The funniest part is that the 2 skeins of Court of Dreams are from two totally different YEARS, let alone dye lots, and they look so good together. Not exact, which I would never expect because how would you even do that years apart from each other, but its so close you can’t tell when its worked up and I am so impressed.

DK Vanilla Knit beanie

This was the first thing I cast on right after Flock. Like within an hour of getting home I was changed into my pjs (at 1pm) caking this yarn and knitting myself into the coziest zone out I have had in a while. I have made this pattern a few times, so it is 100% a favorite of mine, but this one turned out soooo good with this yarn and I am so glad I chose both the pattern and the yarn for this one. Plus my partner looks super hot in it, so that’s just a cherry on top.
I’ve already ranted and raved about this yarn, but it’s Red Door Fiber Studio Kenergy on her Dk base. I addooore it. It’s vibrant, it’s soft, it didn’t bleed when I washed it (a teeny bit of yellow on the color catcher but I wouldn’t have noticed it if I washed it without one, it was SO faint) and the way the green blends into itself is just breath taking. I want to make a sweater with this base, in any color she makes, and I will one day.
Alright pals, that’s all I’ve got for today! If you haven’t checked out my most recent new pattern, I have a crochet set out now that I am totally obsessed with, and it was made with HANDSPUN yarn one of my sweet friends made me!
I also released my Apollo Cardigan free crochet pattern last week so GO check it out and let me know what you think!
